    you say "te amo" (Amar) When you are in love with someone, but if you say "me encanta" (Encantar) is cause you think that is pretty or handsome or something has a good taste! It's too different ! Cheers

    The use is similar to:

    -I like apples (me encantan las manzanas)
    -I love apples (yo amo las manzanas)

    (Spanish is my mothertongue)

    Estoy de acuerdo de acuerdo con waltermateo, aunque en España también se utiliza el verbo amar en frases como:

    - Mi padre amaba su trabajo de lutier.
    Es decir cuando uno tiene una enorme pasión por algo.

    Sin embargo expresiones como "Amo el pastel de manzana" son inusuales en España, aunque no son incorrectas.

    amar = to love
    encantar = to fancy
