A break = a time in which someone is not busy with whatever they were doing (working, studying, etc.)
"I got a break" = past tense
"I've got a break" = present tense
Example:
"I got a break from studying geometry, so I went to the store. But now I'm studying again."
"I've got a break from work. I have to go back to work in an hour."
