배우는 것 and 배우기

배우는 것 and 배우기 are two ways to say "learning" (a noun).

한국어를 배우는 것 = learning Korean
한국어를 배우기 = learning Korean

What is the difference between -는 것 and -기 and when can/can't I use one or the other?

Examples would be helpful too. Thanks!

    1. They're actually not different. Note that these are NOT equivalent for TO-infinitive and V-ing(Gerund) in English. -하는 것 actually (and literally) means "the thing that is..." in English. So,

나는 한국어(를) 배우기를 좋아한다. I like studying Korean.

나는 한국어를 배우는 것을 좋아한다. I like the thing that is studying Korean. (*Note that this is not grammatically correct in English :D)

    2. The only difference between them is that:

when using compound word, -는 것 is seldom used.

ex) Speaking Test : 말하기 시험 (O) 말하는 것 시험 (X)
Listening Practice : 듣기 연습 (O) 듣는 것 연습 (X)

To learn English / Learning English are different
Learning English is more like "action"
To learn English is more like "for"

sorry i cant type Korean character here
