Involving multiple actions in one sentence and dealing with the tense of verbs [for Korean]

Do you conjugate the tense of both verbs when writing a sentence that contains multiple actions that happened in the past?
For example, which sentence is correct:

제가 김치찌개를 요리 하고 도서관에 갔어요.

or

제가 김치찌개를 요리 했고 도서관에 갔어요.

Both sentences are correct, but different in meaning.

...하고....했어요 ☞ one action is followed by another, meaning "right after"
    = ...하고 (나서)...했어요.

...했고...했어요 ☞ two different actions happened, there can be another between two actions.

When two events happened in chronological order, and one action has got to do with another, only the last verb takes the past tense.

    e.g.
    7:00 am ☞ 요리했어요. (for 1 hour)
    8:00 am ☞ 도서관에 갔어요.
    ☞ 저는 요리하고 도서관에 갔어요.

    7:00 am ☞ 요리했어요.
    8:00 am ☞ 아침을 먹었어요.(I had breakfast)
    ...
    1: 00 pm ☞ 낮잠을 잤어요.(I took a nap for an hour)
    2:00 pm ☞ 도서관에 갔어요.
    ...
(오늘) 저는 요리를 했고 도서관에 갔어요.
    Also you can say...
    저는 요리하고 아침을 먹었어요.
    저는 낮잠을 자고 도서관에 갔어요.
