You can just say "verb +지 마."
i.e.
Don't do it: 하지 마.
Don't look: 보지 마.
Don't eat: 먹지 마.
"verb +지는 마," emphasizes the verb, OR
it is used when want to say "you can do one thing, but you cannot do this."
i.e.
먹지는 마: Don't do the act of eating = don't eat it (emphasizing "eat").
선물 받아. 근데, 아직 열지는 마: Take this present. But, don't open it yet.
여행 가는 건 좋지만 너무 자랑하지는 마: It's cool that you go on a trip, but don't brag too much.
