In Spain today, both the public and politicians agree that families matter. Four out of five people say that “my family are more important to me than my friends”.
Most of the time when a person thinks of the definition of a family, the image of a mother, father and children is what comes into the mind. However, it is not correct.
First of all, our society is compound basically by families, single-parent families, traditional families and, homosexual families. Basis on the truth that the family is the first step of educational system I would like to say that, little by little our society is changing and not only single-parent families and traditional families have place in our society. Nowadays, we need to give space for homosexual families. These kind of families are increasing with the same rights that the others.
There are several countries in the world, mainly in Europe, that accept this types of marriage, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, are most of them.
According to researchers, and speaking about childhood and teenagers education, is not important for develop your personality if you belong to a single-parent, traditional or homosexual family. Honestly, I think that it is very soon to say that. Recently, homosexual couples have the right to adopt children and in the future we will see what will happen with children behaviour and make distinctions between roles, man and woman.
Obviously, all of them have advantages and disadvantages. Speaking about single-parent family, the single mother is the most common form of this type of family, must cope with low pay, child-care problems, and the overcharge of working. On the other hand, it is thought that homosexual couples have fewer problems to make ends meet.
Also, around the world, we can find other types of families, for instance, extended families. An extended family is two or more adults from different generations of a family, who share a household. A childless family is simply, a couple that have never had children. It is a decision.
From my point of view, if I had had to choose my family, I would have chosen a traditional family. Probably is more comfortable than single-parent family or homosexual family. Each one has a different role and you can learn about both roles.
