Deutsch - Sonntags-etwas
Guys, I'm studying a lesson that I can't seem to understand very well!
It's about some nouns which are added with Sonntags before them:
Some of them seem to be easy to understand, so here we go:
____
Sonntagsbeilage: Is that an extra part of a newspaper that comes every Sunday? For example, a special bit for music or tv? Or something different like " the newspapers on Sundays come with a receipt book " Is that it?
Sonntagsbraten: Is that the dish that people only eat on Sundays because they can't afford to eat it in a regular basis?
Sonntagsfahrer: Is that a bad driver that has no much experience?
Sonntagskleid or Sonntagsanzug: Is it one's best clothes that are used only on especial occasions like Church or something else?
Sonntagsreden/er: As far as I understood, is that person that speechs about a better world but him/herself doesn't do anything to change. Just talk! Is that it?
Sonntagsspaziergang: That walk, that family does only on Sundays?
Sonntagszeitung; This one I could not understand properly. From what I read is a newspaper that is only released on Sundays?

Sonntagsbeilage: Is that an extra part of a newspaper that comes every Sunday? For example, a special bit for music or tv? Or something different like " the newspapers on Sundays come with a receipt book " Is that it? --> Yes, exactly!
Sonntagsbraten: Is that the dish that people only eat on Sundays because they can't afford to eat it in a regular basis? --> Close. It's not that you can't afford it. You use this word more likely for a dish that you eat on Sundays because it takes a long time (!) to make it.
Sonntagsfahrer: Is that a bad driver that has no much experience? --> No. The point is he/she drives very slowly (!).
Sonntagskleid or Sonntagsanzug: Is it one's best clothes that are used only on especial occasions like Church or something else? --> Yes!
Sonntagsreden/er: As far as I understood, is that person that speechs about a better world but him/herself doesn't do anything to change. Just talk! Is that it? --> No. It means a person who do a speech about (f.e.) what everybody should do, and the next day he is going to do the opposite.
Sonntagsspaziergang: That walk, that family does only on Sundays? --> Yes. Maybe longer than the ordinary walk.
Sonntagszeitung; This one I could not understand properly. From what I read is a newspaper that is only released on Sundays? --> Yes! You understood this right. There is no other particular meaning in it.

In German you can add just about any two words together to make another word. the meaning is the simly the two words together.
Example:
Sonntagsbraten is a "Braten" that you eat on "Sunday".
Sonntagsreden is a "reden" that happens on "Sonntags".
There is really no special meaning attached to any of these, unless they occur in some kind of context.
