I thought "cotinuum" meant sort of "a history", like #1,and 2.
But it doesn't seem to mean that if I look at the examples below.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that some of the examples are due to a misunderstanding of what a "continuum" actually is.
Basically, when you have a continuum, you have two extreme examples, and every example in between is only slightly different from its neighbour: all the shades of grey.
So, 2 and 6 are clear examples of "continuum". You have clear extremes and finer examples in between.
Example 4 is stretching it a little: you'd say a risk to reward ratio (ie. they work together in proportion). It's saying that a continuum version exists, but not giving any more details.
If 1 makes any sense, I'd say it's dumb luck... the speaker is using it as a buzzword, and has probably misunderstood its meaning.
Number 3 is a misuse. A variety and a continuum are not the same. Again, using a buzzword to sound cool, but not understanding it.
Number 5 is wrong. Charm and brilliance are hardly extremes, nor does the rest of the paragraph support the use of the word. It sounds flashy as a phrase, but it's basically nonsense.

Hello, so in this case:
1) In this usage "continuum" is representing something that is happening or occurring. It is saying that it is easy to get caught up in something that is happening. For example: It is hard not to get caught up in the continuum/phenomenon that swept the world known as Gangnam Style by Psy.
2) In this case "continuum" is similar to the word "spectrum." For example: On one end of the continuum you have America which has a constitutional amendment that protects the right to bear arms, while on the other end of the continuum you have the United Kingdom which has banned the possession of personal firearms.
3) In this example the word being used as a way to show representation and range. For example: A rainbow represents a wide continuum of colors.
4)Same as 3, it is indicating that there is a range between risk and reward and all the points that are in between the two opposite ends.
5 & 6) These are the same as well. They are showing a range of characteristics. In 5 it is that this person has all of the characteristics that one would associate with charm and brilliance. He has charm and brilliance and everything in between
6) This one is writing about how there can be broad array of men between what I am assuming are killers. This killers have a continuum of social acumen from suave and debonair to being reserved and quiet in their mannerisms.
