What verb or phrasal verb do we use when we want to ask someone to use a photo for his/her profile?

Actually Neil - it does, if Tara is referring to 'using a photo' - as opposed to just having the default icon, or having a cartoon.
As far as an answer - I guess the best would be 'upload'.

The word "use" doesn't make sentence in your sentence. But if I understand correctly what you want to say, the verb you need is either "take (a picture)" or "photograph". "May I take a picture of your profile?" Or: "May I photograph your profile?"
