Here are some examples of Big Brother:

    1. In some cities, the police have installed cameras on certain streets. Those cameras can then show the police who is on those streets.

    2. In some countries, the government can listen to any telephone conversation.

    3. Some countries are using drones. Those are little pilotless airplanes that are remotely controlled. They can take pictures -- or even kill someone.

    4. In some countries, the police may tell someone: You can now leave jail. But you must wear a special device, which tells us where you are at all times.

    5. In one American city, the government has decided that nobody should drink large sodas, for they have too much sugar and can make a person too fat.

Big Brother means "the government," and in particular a paternalistic police state that supposedly watches over you to protect your interests. However, "Big Brother" has a negative connotation as it implies that the government is too controlling and interferes with its citizens civil liberties.

    Google it.

    Google it.

"Big Brother" comes from a novel by George Orwell called "1984," which was about a future government that spied on its citizens. "Big Brother is watching you" is a line from the novel and it means "The government is spying on you."
