What's the difference between 수영 and 헤엄쳐?

수영 is sino-korean word & 헤엄 is a native word. Both of them have the same meaning = "swim".
the two have difference in usage. for as far as I know 수영 is meant for the type you see in competition event or exercise but the other one is meant for any type of movement in water.. like if you try to say a group of smugglers try to get across a stream it is better to use the latter since it only refers to a general sense of movement across water. that is perhaps why it is used for animals as well since it involves no specific skill
