how to understand “ got into a crash”？
In that race, at Phoenix International Raceway, Denny got into a crash at the first turn. This is a rule of racing: No race has ever been won in the first turn, but many have been lost there.

It's just a different way of saying that he crashed his car. His crashing "got [him] into" a crash.
