    eat = base form or infinitive.
    ate = past form.
    eaten = past participle.

    I have eaten.
    She has eaten.
    We had eaten.

    For people who want to speak correct English, we used the p.p. in the perfect tenses. NEVER say: I have ate.

    I am eating pie. Pie is being EATEN by me.
    Mona ate pie. Pie was EATEN by Mona.
    We will eat Chinese food. Chinese food will be EATEN by us.

    The p.p. is necessary for the passive.

    There are many uses of the p.p. I have given you only two of them.
