Resolved questions
do I paraphrased it right?

At that moment the Caroline was over New Jersey, winging southward from New York with most of the Senator's twenty-six guests. In the morning the Caroline would again be airborne. The entire party had tickets to the Harvard-Yale game and were going to spend the remainder of the week¬end at Hyannis Port with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Kennedy.

I paraphrase it like this:

At that moment the Caroline【 a plane. but is this a special plane?】 was over New Jersey, winging southward from New York with most of the Senator's twenty-six guests. In the morning the Caroline would again be airborne【next morning, the plane will take off again】.

It was a plane owned by the Kennedy family and it was used by Kennedy in the 1960 presidential campaign. Kennedy named it after his daughter Caroline. Like Re Marie stated, people sometimes name their boats and airplanes.

Absolutely correct. The plane may have been a private plane. People who own their own boats and planes sometimes give them names.
