please help to explain the meaning of the sentence below~ thx a lot~
--Last fall we got a good deal on last minute flights when we flew to California.--
I'm not certain of the meaning, I guess
1. we got cheapest flight tickets to California, because we bought them at the last minute.
2. during the flight to California, just before the plane landing, I (or we) had make a good deal with some other passengers.
which one is correct? or both are not?
thanks a lot for helping........

It's 1, and definitely not 2. Airlines sometimes offer extremely attractive last-minute deals because they figure that they might as well get some extra income instead of flying with empty seats. (This does not happen nearly as often since most airplanes fly at full capacity these days...)
