Stress in Spanish is pretty clear-cut: If a word ends in a vowel, "n", or "s", the stress is on the next to the last syllable. If the word ends in any other consonant, the stress is on the last syllable. Any word that breaks those rules will show the irregular stress with an accent mark. Eg. "árbol" (AR-bol) for "tree" not "arbol" (*ar-BOL); "ojalá" (o-ja-LA) for "God willing", not "ojala" (*o-JA-la). Pronunciation of the vowel does not change, in theory ;)
