"-ㅂ니다" is a polite and formal ending.
    가다, 가-ㅂ니다. 갑니다.

"습니다" is used when conjugating with a verb stem having last sound of last character,
    먹다, 먹-습니다.먹습니다.

When using it with '-이다', it is conjugated to '입니다'. 이-ㅂ니다
    이다, 이-ㅂ니다. 입니다.
