Does that have the meaning of "I started reading and translating" or "I read and started translating"?

What I want to say is:

I started reading and translating news articles about Lee Si-young.

But I was hoping to avoid using 시작했다 twice.

The meanings of two sentences are the same. However,

I started reading and translating the book

(please notice the comma.)
I read the book and started translating it.

I started reading and translating news articles about Lee Si-young.
