What is the difference between "close" and close together"?

I can't really understand the difference. Perhaps the 2nd one is more emphatic.

In english 'close' can have many meanings depending on the context in which it is used, for example it can mean: adjacent, near, intimate, almost equal, shut, for instance: close the door (shut the door), close to the door (near the door)

'close together' could be used in the context of being almost equal, near each other.

    Hope this helps.
