how can I use the verb 乗り換える?

example : I'm now in the 電車 、at the next station I want to ride the 地下鉄 then I came back home , so I say :
私は電車に乗って、地下鉄に乗り換えて、うちへ帰りました。 is it correct ? or I should say :
私は電車に乗って、地下鉄を乗り換えて、 うちへ帰りました。 
I should use を or に ?

    I think "地下鉄に乗り換えて" should be correct.
    "に" means "to" "into" "onto" etc.

    I'm glad to know that so many people learn Japanese now.

    Extra:
    When you are inside and get out you must to use 「を」.  中 -> 外
    When are outside and get in, 「に」. 外 ー> 中

    I mean:
    電車を降ります。Leave the train.
    家・教室を出ます。 Leave house / the classroom.
    空港を発つ・出発。Take off.

    レストランに入る。 Enter the restaurant.
    空港に着く。 Arrive at the airport.

    In this case, に is correct as Rio-san explained.

    If you are in 地下鉄, and transfer from a line(let's say 御堂筋線) to another line(let's say 谷町線 ), then
    地下鉄を乗り換える
    or
    (地下鉄を)御堂筋線から谷町線に乗り換える
