"The same" in Thai

I have learned several expressions for "the same" in Thai, including "mĕuan kan" (เหมือนกัน), dieow kan (เดียวกัน) and tâo kan (เท่ากัน). But I don't know when to use each one. In fact, whichever one I use always seems to be the wrong one for the situation. Can anyone explain to me, in English, how to use each of these words/expressions? Thanks.
