What is the difference of FAITHFUL and LOYAL?

I don't think there is much of a difference and the two can more or less be used interchangeable. The one instance where one uses faithful in preference to loyal is when talking about relationships. For example one would say "He was always faithful to his wife" and it would be unusual to see "loyal" being used in such a context. Other that I cannot think of much of difference.
