Want to know some words difference

I see people use 입니다 and 이에요 all the time.
Does it both mean the same?
Which one should I use when I introduce myself? :
1) 저는 _(name)_ 입니다
2) 저는 _(name)_ 이에요

-입니다 is the formal version, 이에요 is the polite way
The verb is 이다 - to be

On first introductions it's probably nice to say 입니다 and from then you can go to -요 form verbs ^_^
