Qu'est ce que ca veut dire "dépasser de la civilisation"?

"D'où l'inévitable interrogation: le français ne correspond-il pas à un moment dépassé de la civilisation, ses qualités conviennent-elles à notre société technologique, de confort, de consommation, de permissivité"

Q: Comment comprendre "dépasser de" dans cette phrase?

    dépassé = révolu c'est à dire qui s'est déroulé

    moment du passé

    Dépasser in english means = pass , exeed , go over , escape .. ect

     

    Basically, it loosely says: Was French fitting in a moment in time that no longer exist (maybe it belong to the past), because of our modern life style. Quelque chose de "dépassé" = out of fashion, bakward, out of date.
