Трудно сказать, но я слышал вот такое выражение:
    - Talking with her is like pulling teeth. – С ней говорить как головой об стену биться.
    - Convincing him otherwise is like pulling teeth. – Убеждать его в обратном как головой об стену биться.

"It's like (pulling teeth) to get him to do his homework."
Заставить его делать уроки - это целая проблема.

"Convincing him otherwise is like pulling teeth
Целая проблема - убеждать его в обратном.

Talking with her is like pulling teeth.
    - С ней очень трудно разговаривать.

If the goal is to translate 'like pulling teeth' as close to its original meaning as possible, I'd chose ' - это целая проблема'.

'как головой об стену биться' is of more colourful language (an idiom) and shows more advanced knowledge of Russian language. Though, its meaning is slightly different. It means 'like banging your head against a brick wall', or 'not have a hope in hell' as a verb, while 'это целая проблема' means 'it is very difficult'.
