is there's a potential difference between :

ごめんなさい and すみません。

Are there different situations where we can use only one of them ??!

and i know that the word "はなし” means " talk or speech" , can it be used to give the meaning of " a story" ??

ありがとうございます!

ごめんなさい means only "i'm sorry", in other words, it's an apology to someone. On the other hand, you can use すみません all the time, in any case.

ex. You are on the train now and someone gives up his/her seat for you. You can't say ごめんなさい because why are you apologizing? You can say すみません instead of ありがとう.

すみません can in a way be thanking someone for having to be considerate of you. Of course it also means "I'm sorry", so you can use it when you have to apologize. すみません is more useful than ごめんなさい.

はなす(verb) = to talk or speak (speech is noun in English but yes, same meaning).
    はなし(noun)= story, tale

    すみません
    場合によってexcuse meとして使われています
    例:バーとかで『すみません、灰皿をもらえますか』

    ごめいなさい
    sorry

    はなし
    場合によって言えます
    例:恋ばなし
