His gaze went to the device over her eye. Seeing it, his anger took like a torch. He stalked away, not trusting himself to be near her.

    He's so angry at her that he doesn't want to be near her because he is afraid he will lose his temper or do something he will regret.

    The phrase "not trusting himself near her" basically means that he does not trust himself to be around her, maybe out of anger or sadness...he does not feel like he can be near her..
