Undecided questions
How do you learn Japanese kanji and not mix it up with Chinese hanzi?

I am fluent in Chinese and I know many hanzi characters. I am going to be studying Japanese kanji this year and I want to know if anyone has any tips on not mixing them up still while retaining separate knowledge of the characters. It is confusing because many characters have different meanings in each language.
