What is the best way to say "hello, how are you?"

Is it better, more common, more colloquial to say "最近好吗?" than "你好吗?" ?

My teacher (at university not on italki) says I should say "你好吗?", but my Chinese friends say I should say "最近好吗?"

Both are OK. As for me, I prefer to say "最近好吗?".

"最近好吗" is you ask a friend who you didn't meet for a period of time , likes "how have you been"in English, I think if you ask daily ,"你好吗" is better .
