I don't know the meaning of 1) 2) and 3). Can you explain it to me?

Bobbie was able to practice a level of medicine equal to what she had practiced in Chicago.

But the rain! The constant, unending rain!

Across the examining room, Manuel cocked his head. 1)"Listen," he said.

2)"Believe me, I hear it," Bobbie said.

3)"No. Listen."

I don't know the meaning of 1) 2) and 3). Can you explain it to me?

    1) Manuel asks Bobbie to listen to the rain.
    2) Bobbie says that he is listening to the rain.
    3) Manuel is trying to emphasize something by telling Bobbie that he/she is not hearing what he is hearing. That Bobbie doesn't understand what Manuel understands at that moment.

I hope this helps. It's difficult to explain the meaning as I don't know the context, but I think that Manuel is trying to make Bobbie understand/realize something.
