"Even though" in French?

What would be the most common way to say "even though" in French?

For example:
Even though they were the first to arrive, they finished last.

Google Search returns: même si
Does "même si" not translate literally to "same if"?

Merci.

"même si" is right. It mean "even if". Même as several meanings : even & same and if coupled with other words it can mean just as, himself, directly on...

"Même si" is correct but I think "bien que' vwould be more accurate. That's what I've always been taught anyway.
