堂亲:cousins from your father's side; 表亲:cousins from your mother's side.

    Chinese on cousins are different.
Biao-jie: daughter of your mom's sisters, elder than you.
Biao-ge: son of your mama's sisters, elder than you.

Biao-mei: daugther of your mom' sisters, younger than you.
Biao-di: son of your mama' sisters, younger than you.

Tang-jie: dau'ter of your dad' bros, elder than you
Tang-ge: son of your dad' bros, elder than you
Tang-mei: dauter of your dad' bros. younger than u
Tang-di: son of ur dad' bros, younger than u

Cousins are biaoge biaodi biaojie biaomei, tangge tangdi tangjie tangmei.

    On father's side, called Tang
    On mother's side called Biao.
    Elder than you called Jie、Ge
    Younger than you called Mei、Di
    male called: Ge, Di
    female called: Jie Mei

if Chinese people have "many types" -- so you will have to say same "many types"
just like there's no simple word "brother" or "sister"
    and
it's their language, you should use it as they do
without deciding "too many" or "too few"

to say children of your mother's sisters or brothers, use "表哥,表兄,表弟,表姐,表妹“
to say children of your mother's sisters or brothers, use"堂哥,堂兄,堂弟,堂姐,堂妹“

to say children of your mother's sisters or brothers, use "表哥,表兄,表弟,表姐,表妹“
to say children of your father's sisters or brothers, use"堂哥,堂兄,堂弟,堂姐,堂妹“

sorry the last answer of mine to this question has a typo. It should be "father" in the second sentence.

    'cousins' means ' 亲戚 '
