Please help to correct and explain the following

Hi,

[이들은 '이런 유형의 행성에서 바다나 대륙을 볼 것으로 기대하지는 않지만 구름으로 해석되는 분명한 반사 신호를 포착했다'고 말했다.]
(4th paragraph from this site: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/world/2013/10/182_143628.html

이들은(they) '이런(this) 유형의(type of) 행성에서(planet in) 바다나(sea or) 대륙을(continent) 볼 것으로(to see) 기대하지는 않지만(although not expected but) 구름으로(cloud) 해석되는(is interpreted as) 분명한(clear) 반사신호를(heliogram) 포착했다(captured)'고 말했다(said).

1) Is my translation below correct?

They said, "although in this type of planet, it is not expected to see the sea or continent, but (we) captured the clear heliogram that is interpreted as cloud".

2) Please explain the grammar behind 볼 것으로. ㄹ 것 is the future tense but used with 으로? How about the 으로 in 구름으로?

감사합니다!

The complement clauses(or nominitive clause) in sentences in Korean appear in many different ways.

For example, to-infinite clauses, that-clauses, ing-clauses, and wh-clauses are used as a complement clauses in English. In the same ways, The clauses form of "a stem of verb or adjective + 으(ㄴ)/는/(으)ㄹ 것" is similar to "to-infinite clauses or ing-clauses".

    무엇-을 예상하다.
    무엇-으로 예상하다
    뭐라-고 예상하다
(Here 무엇 stands for a noun or a clause.)

    expect + to-infinite clause or ing-clause
    할 것을 예상하다/기대하다
    할 것으로 예상하다/기대하다

    expect + that clause
    하-리라 예상하다/기대하다
    할 거라고 예상하다/기대하다.
