Station is more for trains or buses. It's the actual building they stop at. Terminals are the different sections of an airport.

(based on clarification in a message) Firstly - I think that you are imagining that stay and term are roots of station and terminal. Even if they were, what relevance does a root based in a language 2000 years ago have to the usage of the modern word? If anything 'terminal' relates to 'terminate'. A terminal is where a transport line ends. So a terminal will usually be where many bus or train lines _end_ and a station is a stop partway along the line. But that is not a definition. It is just common usage. Many stations at the end of a line are just called stations. Which is used depends on who is naming the structure. In the USA, where the public transport is usually poor, 'terminal' is usually used to refer to a section of an airport, as Molly said.
