To look at, to look to Answer, please, what is the difference between "he looked at the shard" and "he looked to the shard"?

To look to can also mean to rely on someone. For instance, Whenever he had a problem, he looked to his father for help. :)

He looked at the shard = he physically examined the shard. He looked to the shard = he looked in the general direction of the shard.
