miteinander = with each other; implies interaction together
zusammen = together; just implies doing the same thing together
Best example to show the difference I guess:
"Wir haben miteinander geschlafen" = "We selpt with each other" = sex
"WIr haben zusammen geschlafen" = " We slept together" = same bed, same room, etc
Sometimes they can be used interchangeably, though.
