Linkers of contrast - Please, correct my mistakes! :D I had to add two different options of linkers of contrast (given in the book) to a sentence (also given). 1) Some celebrities are good roll models for young people; others, *however*, set a negative example. / *Although* some celebrities are good roll models for young people, others set a negative example. 2) *Despite* (the fact that) anonymously published Internet news is unreliable, many people rely on it as a main source of information. / *While* anonymously published Internet news is unreliable, many people rely on it as a main source of information. 3) *While* false reports of celebrity deaths are common, some people still believe them. / False reports of celebrity deaths are common; *however*, some people still believe them. 4) *Although* the scandal damaged his reputation, he still has millions of fans. / *Despite* (the fact that) the scandal damaged his reputation, he still has millions of fans. The one which makes me doubt more is the case of "despite" (in 2 and 4), because the examples given in the book with despite are followed by "-ing", but I can't see how to use -ing in these cases, so I added "the fact that" because it sounded more natural to me... I'm not sure about that. Any comments?

Their almost all correct. There are a few small errors. After 'despite', you have to either say a noun (a gerund counts) or begin a phrase with 'that'. Ex. "Despite (the fact) that anonymously published Internet news is unreliable..." "Despite anonymously published Internet news being unreliable..." Apart from that, I can't see any errors.
