What individual Arabic characters that change when put into words?

For example, I just found out that if 'halal' put into single characters, it becomes four characters: 'ha' 'l' 'a' 'l', but their writings become different (become tilted). Can someone help me on this?

    salam,
well, arabic alphabet is a little different than latin alphabet. you can't just make a word but putting "isolated" characters next to each other. the characters must be linked with each other. here is a website where you can learn about all the forms and the way to put them together to form words:
http://www.learnarabic.com/ext/apps/alphabetapp/ (click on the tabs on top to see different parts)
