I think that Children should help their parents for a couple of reasons. First, I think it will help teach the children a valuable skill for later in life. It also will improve the child's character, the will grow up helping people and being able to participate. Lastly, I think adult/child relationships are important to mature the child into an adult.

I am a homeschooling mom of 4 children, 3 girls and a (baby) boy. Because I am preparing my children for adulthood, I do have them help me prepare meals. They even make meals on their own with no help from me at all. We typically start with eggs at around 4 to 5 years of age. I have them help me when they're very young, very interested and eager to help. My 7 year old daughter shocked my aunt who visited with us a few days ago, as she went into the kitchen and made herself a hamburger, but our aunt as well. My 11 year old is getting to the point where she is very comfortable cooking and my 16 year old can prepare complete meals, holiday meals included, with no help, and all from scratch (no pre-made packaged foods). I look forward to helping my son learn as well. One benefit of this has been that there are a lot of days that I don't have to cook at all. After having my son 8 months ago, I had no need of the meals many of my friends wanted to bring because my daughters can cook. We still accepted the food though. :)

I think that children should help their parents at some extent; First, from the parents's view, with being helped by their sweet children, they can gain a lot of pleasure and be relax after work. Of course, parents can teach children a lot from doing the housework. Second, children can improve their ability of doing the housework, and they can be more independent from doing this, of course, they can have a good relationship with their parents. So, in the end, I think that children should help their parents with the housework which can benefit them a lot.
