What's the difference between "wedding" and "matrimony", or they are the same?

the wedding is the event, the matrimony is what happens at the wedding

wedding - the day when people get married matrimony - marriage - the lifetime (or less!) 'matrimony' is hardly ever used though - marriage is used much more
