Beginner Japanese reader I want to learn how to read Japanese. I only know the Hiragana and Katakana character. Could someone give me advice on where I should start?

• Amna already mentioned children's books. Although, sometimes they are written only with kana and a little difficult to read because of that. Kanji can be a good thing to distinguish words and their meanings. • There is a series called Japanese Graded Readers, which is good for beginners. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/4872176243?pc_redir=1405954460&robot_redir=1 • I have never used these, but there are similar readers from a publisher called White rabbit Press. http://japanesegradedreaders.com/ • After some time you can use the Read Real Japanese bilingual books, or Breaking into Japanese Literature, or Exploring Japanese Literature. These are all books with adapted Japanese literature with English notes on one side of the page.

I am a beginner too . So i bought short stories and books for kids. They are easier to read and you will gain vocabulary fast. Also Doraemon manga is good.
