Why do my Nepali friends always ask me this first and how do I respond?
My phone rings and it is my Nepali friend calling. I answer, "Hello?"
"Hi, where are you?" I'm always stumped by this. "Uh, I'm driving," I respond and try to figure out where I am at that exact moment.
Is this like the English version of "Hi, how are you?" English speakers often say this without thinking or really waiting for an answer. It is just a formality in our language. So is this the same in the Nepalese culture, and how do I respond to this?
