How do you say, "the day was shot." meaning that the day was ruined, in Spanish. I am guessing that there is an idiom for this. Thanks.

In spanish is very difficult to say some phrases, because this depending of the country for example in Costa Rica you can say: Que día mas pura tusa! or maybe in neutral spanish: Día Terrible!, Este día estuvo espantoso!, Me arruinaron el día!!, Me bombardearon el día de Hoy!!
    I hope you serve

    Regards

Esteban tiene razón. De todos modos, de todas las expresiones que da yo diría que "Me arruinaron el día" es más neutro y creo que todos los hablantes de español te entenderán.
