What means high school points? I need to know what the meaning of "high school point". I saw that in "Candidates are eligible to apply if the have 240 high school points" and I don't know if this refers to credits in your degree or is a kind of grade/mark. I know it is not a grammar question but it's related to vocabulary.

I suspect it means course credits, although I've never heard them referred to as points.

Oops...forget what I wrote above. It won't help you and can only server to confuse you. "high school" in the U.S. is a secondary school. In Europe, it usually applies to tertiary school which is equivalent to "college" or "university" in the United States. I Googled "Candidates are eligible to apply if the have 240 high school points" and found this webpage http://www.nature.com/naturejobs/science/jobs/430809-phd-position It describes an opening for a Ph.D. position in Sweden. So I Googled for "high school points" and "Sweden" and found this web page http://www.boc.uu.se/boc14www/teaching/PhD_general_info.html Requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy exam For the Doctor of Philosophy degree examination it is required to have completed courses which are included in the individual study plan of every doctorand as well as successful passing of the dissertation. Education which leads to the Ph.D. degree corresponds to 240 high school points (four years of full time studies) with the disputation accounting for the min 120 high school points and the courses taken comprising min 120 high school points. Requirements for the Licentiate of Philosophy exam The research education of min 120 high school points (two years of full time studies) can be completed with the Licentiate of Philosophy degree examination. For this it is required that doctorand has completed courses which are included in the individual study plan and comprise min 60 high school study points as well as has completed scientific research which corresponds to min 60 high school points. passing

The first thought is that "high school points" are another word for course credits but even at 3 points per semester course, 240 points would equal 80 semester courses which is double the typical courseload that a student would take during 4 years of high school. It would only make sense if a semester course were worth about 6 high school points (6 x 40 = 240). But, be careful, this is just a wild guess. It is highly advisable that you seek help from someone familiar with the specific situation.
