You could try and download Skype or use MSN to talk with foreigners. It's still harder than talking in person, because you miss the face movement and gestures but all in all it's still the best way if you find yourself in a place with just a few foreigners.

I guess it's easier for people who live in Shanghai, Beijing or Hong Kong though. But I'm sure you noticed that when you went to Luoyang. :P
