Questions about using Verb+ (으)라고 + 해요 form for Quoted Imperative 여러분 안녕하세요. I am trying to understand this grammar structure. I believe it means to tell someone that someone has told them to do something. ie. 조용히 하라고 해 주세요. Please tell them/him/her to be quite. My first question is about the subject particles. If I wanted to say that my Dad told me to tell my sisters that my Mom is coming home, how would the subject particles be used? 아뻐지(?) 여동생들한테 엄마(?) 집으로 오라고 해요. (?) denotes what particle should be used My second question is how do I show tenses with this format? For example, if I wanted to say please tell the teacher that I am going to be late. Could I say, 선생님한테 나 늦을으라고 해요. The tense is expressed in the first verb or 선생님한테 나 늦으라고 할거에요. The tense is expressed in the second verb. Thanks

Hi Matt, 1) "My Dad told me to tell my sisters that my Mom is coming home." = 아버지께서 '어머니가 집에 오고 계시다'고 동생들한테 말하라고 하셨어요. (in a formal way) = 아빠가 '엄마가 집에 오고 있다'고 동생들한테 말하라고 했어. (in an informal way) "My Dad told me to tell my sisters that my Mom came home." = 아버지께서 '어머니가 집에 오셨다'고 동생들한테 말하라고 하셨어요. (in a formal way) = 아빠가 '엄마가 집에 왔다'고 동생들한테 말하라고 했어. (in an informal way) 2) "Please tell the teacher that I am going to be late." = 선생님께 '저는 늦을거'라고 말해주세요. (in a formal way) = 선생님한테 '나는 늦을거'라고 말해줘. (in an informal way) "Please tell the teacher that I am late." = 선생님께 '저는 늦었다'고 말해주세요. (in a formal way) = 선생님한테 '나는 늦었다'고 말해줘. (in an informal way) Hope it helps.

My Dad told me to tell my sisters that my Mom is coming home. 아빠가 엄마는 집으로 오고있다고 여동생들한테 얘기하라고 했어요. Please tell the teacher that I am going to be late. 제가 늦을거라고 선생님한테 말씀해주세요.
