"The teacher was having none of that" "No one had ever attempted that before" None is to be without, no one has the absence of people associated with it.

'None' means 'not one' / 'zero'. How many goals did he score? None. (0) 'No one' is the same as 'nobody' and it refers to people. Who lives in this house? No one. It's empty.
