Is there a way to use a standard American keyboard to type Cyrillic letters? I would like to start learning some Russian but it is difficult for me to type Cyrillic letters. I am hoping someone is able to tell me if there is an easy way to type Cyrillic letters using my standard American keyboard. Thanks in advance

Yes, you can enable Russian input language in your system if you go to 'Text Services and Input Languages' (that's how it's called in Windows 7, don't know about other OS). You will need Russian stickers though. I would advice you to use the standard й-ц-у-к-е-н layout (the Ruissian analogue of q-w-e-r-t-y). In the beginning, it may be a bit difficult to get used to it, but in future it will help you type quickly, which is virtually impossible with phonetic keyboard.

Do you use Mac or Windows? Regardless, you can enable the Russian keyboard on either system, but the issue then is knowing which key is which letter! Personally I use the phonetic keyboard which allows me to type 'привет' using the keys 'privet' etc. On Mac this is pre-installed, on Windows you need to install the phonetic option.

you can use latin letters, just check this http://winrus.com/kbd_r.htm#phon . You just need to add special file to your comp. Good luck.
