How do you say....? How do you say the following in Irish? 1.) What does he think you should buy for her? 2.) What does he think you should buy for her birthday present? 3.) I heard that you like tea. Chualah mé gur maith leat tae. ??? Or do we need to actually say "I hear that you like tea." instead? If so, would that be "Cloisim gur maith leat tae."?

1. Cad a cheapann sé gur ceart duit ceannacht di? 2. Cad a cheapann sé gur ceart duit ceannacht dá lá breithe? 3. Chuala mé gur maith leat tae / Cloisim gur maith leat tae (either of these is fine, just as, in English, you could say 'I heard that you like tea' or 'I hear that you like tea')

Here are some other constructions you could use: Cad é ba chóir (or "ba cheart") duit a cheannach di, dar leis? = "What should you buy for her, in his opinion/according to him?" You can also put "dar leis" at the beginning of the sentence instead of the end. "Dar" is a special verb, used with "le", for expressing opinions or what someone thinks. Dar leis, cén bronntanas a ba chóir duit a cheannach dá lá breithe, dar leis? = "What present does he think you should buy her for her birthday?" Is clos dom gur maith leat tae. "Is clos dom (go)..." corresponds to the English "I hear/heard (that)..."
