Is the word "kip" used outside Britain? Will the others understand this word?

"Kip" is a great word! I recommend you use it lots of times to increase its currency. I have to go now - time for a kip!

We don't really use it in Australia, but we have enough exposure to UK media to recognise and understand it easily.

Now you mention it, I could do with a kip! I'll be taking my forty winks on the sofa.

Ivan: I had to look it up. I seemed to recall reading or hearing the term, but I had no idea about what it really meant. So, I suppose that I would say it is not very well known in the USA.

American here, haven't heard this term except when talking about the swinging action to 'cheat' when doing pull-ups or chin-ups. Also, I think its the currency of Laos.
